The truth is I was drawn to Wholism PDX because of their gorgeous neon sign and plant greenery everywhere. It looked like a photogenic place. Once I started looking at their menu offerings I realized they had a lot more to offer than just another Instagrammable place, but also a great plant based menu serving primarily vegan food.
It’s a bit surprising to me that Wholism is located on Hawthorne, right next door to other health food cafés, Kure and Harlowe. However, I liked the location tucked away, and under the radar. The plain and simple fact is Wholism is tapping into a community that enjoys and prioritizes clean eateries. I have had a TON of requests to cover more places that provide clean and healthy food options.
WHY I LIKE IT
What they do well is they take classic dishes we all know and love- Pad Thai, Eggs Benedict, Burgers etc.. and sprinkle some plant based fairy dust and which turns them vegan. I’m not kidding, it was one of those times when I was eating and didn’t care that it had zero animal products in it, because it tasted so damn GOOD.
The food is fresh and plated beautifully, but the sauce is really what elevates their dishes to me ( I worried for a second that they might catch me licking my plate.) Filled with punchy flavors and spices, the sauce on the Benedict and the Pad Thai made me wish I had Wholism right next to my house so I could turn to a quick, healthy meal more often.
What to Order
Turmeric + Saffron Latte
A delicate teacup filled with golden milk happiness… Seriously though, not only is this latte GORGEOUS but it tastes like a smile in a cup.
Made with a grain + gluten free English Muffin, avocado, spinach, pickled carrots and turmeric hollandaise ( Add on Option 2 eggs.) This was my favorite item that I tried during my visit at Wholism. The dish has a great balance of flavors and leaves you feeling light and energized.
Fully Raw Pad Thai (Cold)
Made up of zucchini noodles, pickled carrots, raw sauerkraut, avocado, bell pepper, cilantro and topped with an incredible sauce. A plant based twist on a Thai classic, Wholism fully delivers on this raw dish.
Blue Majik Smoothie Bowl
Made with Blue Majik, banana and coconut yogurt, this smoothie bowl is full of color and flavor. I loved the house- made granola and berries on top.
